Contest #2: tell me about your favorite LYS!

Boy and I have been tracking my yarny comings and goings: I've been to 124 yarn stores so far, like Liberty of London (above) and Purl (below). I'd like to celebrate local yarn stores, how much they bring to our community, and how much I love visiting them by having a contest.

Just post a comment to tell me about your favorite yarn store (name, location, and why you like it so much!). The deadline is whenever I make it to store #125 so it could be next week or it could be in a month. The winner (or winners if I get a lot of entries) will be chosen randomly from all the entries and will receive some yarn in his/her favorite colors handpicked from my stash. Thanks for participating and enjoy this picture of a Nantucket 'sheep'!
Edited to add: Shop #125 has been visited (Fil et Fibre in Quebec) so the contest is now over, thank you for participating and your LYS suggestions! The winner of the random drawing is NutmegOwl!

Hey Minh! My fave local yarn shop in my town is The Yarn Shop in Pickerington, OH. My favorite non-LYS is Kiwi Knitting in Tucson, AZ. I love it more than my local one, but a few thousand miles is too far for a few yards!

Fibre Space in Alexandria, VA is my fav. It opened in the last year and it is 5 minutes from my home, so customer friendly and the yarns are fabulous.

Hi, Minh. I haven't gotten to Donna's favorite yet (it's not quite as close to me), but I do love two LYSs here. Uniquities in Vienna VA and Aylin's Woolgatherer in Falls Church VA. The people in both are lovely and supportive. They have a good stock of yarn and order what they don't have hiding in the back room or upstairs. They like seeing what you made from "their" yarn, too.

My favorite LYS is WEBS even though it's an hour away. Out of the shops in my immediate vicinity, I'd have to say Twin Hearts in beautiful downtown Pittsfield. Lots of interesting choices.

Great idea!
I love Pins and Needles in Princeton, New Jersey. An inviting shop, they are customer friendly, offer great yarns, are competitively priced and have great lighting (one of my pet peeves). In historic Princeton, the location is also great, being a great destination for a day of knitting, and exploring.

My favorite LYS was ripped out of my life by its sudden closure last summer - Sit N Knit Too in Old Wethersfield, CT - which is NOT to EVER be confused with the owner's other CT location. I am displaced. But I have received tremendously warm welcomes at Fresh Purls in Providence, RI and Knitwerks in Chicago.

My favorite LYS is the one that will decide that this area needs a yarn store. Until then, we're LYS-less!

My favorite LYS is Stitch House in Dorcester, MA (Boston). They carry great yarn and have black cubbies for the shelving which just looks really sharp. The owner is a superwoman and very sweet. I don't think she sleeps. And it's got a great community which, alas, I am not quite close enough to participate in very often.

Glad to discover your blog - I take it you are somewhat local to me so I'll be adding you to my bloglines!

Hi there! My favorite LYS is Twist, in Manhattan Beach, CA. The owner, Cathy, is very kind, and her taste in yarn is exquisite. She has many organic yarns as well as yarn and products from small, women-owned companies.

My LYS - the Yarn Cupboard in Jamesville, New York located just outside of Syracuse. Open about a year Sue has stocked cubbies with a variety of fibers and a great selection of patterns to meet everyone's needs. In addition she provides two knit gatherings - an evening and a day offering. No excuses for missing an opportunity to knit, share and LOL.

My favorite LYS is Creative Fibers in Windsor CT, just off Route 91, about 5 miles from where I grew up in Windsor Locks. Great store, Laura stocks lots of beautiful yarn, and the place is open and inviting. There's even a section with couches and a fireplace to hang out in.

I must say in the last few weeks, ETSY has become my favorite yarn shop. I just love the dyer's and spinner's work. Plus you can buy unique yarns from allover the world. And I had great contacts with the sellers who are often ready to share their passion for wool and a few words in French when they know i'm from Paris.
Etsy is my favorite place for treasure hunting.

I would like to identify anonymous above as Susan. I thought the correct button was pushed. Additionally, classes are offered at Yarn Cupboard.

NutmegOwl fell off her perch when she opened the package from Minh. OMG does not begin to cover it. If you have never met our hostess here, you have no idea of her generosity.
